Fla., Exceeds 5 Million Mark For COVID-19 Cases In U.S.; Numbers Still Growing
Florida's number is higher than only California and Texas, according to data from the federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

COVID-19 cases in Florida have exceeded 5 million — higher than only California and Texas, according to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The most recent figure from the CDC for Florida is 5,303,818 cases, a cumulation of infections dating back to early 2020, when COVID-19 showed up and spread across the country, killing hundreds of thousands of people.
Only two other states have exceeded the 5 million milestone: California’s figure is 7,570,538 for COVID-19 cases, and Texas is at 5,813,105, according to the CDC.

The figure for New York’s cases, a combination of New York City and New York State, is 4,640,517 — the fourth highest number of COVID cases in the nation. Illinois is the 5th highest, at 2,773,362 cases.
Across the United States, total COVID cases exceed 70 million, plus 769,153 new cases reported. Overall, 862,494 people have died, plus 3,506 new deaths reported, based on Jan. 23 CDC data.
Florida ranks third for total deaths, at 63,576. California is at 77,722 and Texas is at 76,612 deaths.
