Florida Trial Courts To Remain Closed Through May

Chief Justice extends suspension of trials during coronavirus pandemic.

Florida’s trial courts will remain closed through May under an order issued Monday by Chief Justice Charles Canady.

He’d already suspended jury trials and extended court deadlines through mid-April in observance of social distancing guidelines intended to curb transmission of COVID-19. Here’s a round-up of the chief justices COVID-related orders.

The order suspends trial and grand jury selection proceedings, plus speedy-trial rules, and extends deadlines in other court proceedings. It also limits court-ordered in-person family visitation orders for kids under the care of the Florida Department of Children and Families, although electronic visits are allowed.
