Biden Vs. Trump: FL Becomes Crucial Swing State In Presidential Election

Former Vice President Joe Biden has accumulated the delegates needed to secure the Democratic nomination for president.

“Folks, tonight we secured the 1,991 delegates needed to win the Democratic nomination. I’m going to spend every day fighting to earn your vote so that, together, we can win the battle for the soul of this nation,” Biden said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The painful protests over George Floyd’s death and the continuing coronavirus pandemic appeared to overshadow the news of the presidential race, but the numbers became clear.

By Saturday, numerous news outlets announced that Biden had gathered 2,000 delegates — above the 1,991 delegates needed following primary elections throughout the country.

Florida’s Democratic presidential primary race was back in March, with Biden overwhelming U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont.

Sanders suspended his campaign in April, leaving a series of challenges for Biden in Florida, a swing state that is expected to be crucial for President Trump.

Gov. Ron DeSantis has been positioning to bring the Republican National Convention to Florida in light of issues between President Trump and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper over whether it could be held safely in Charlotte in August.

And Trump announced earlier this week that he was seeking a new venue.

DeSantis has mentioned Orlando, Jacksonville, and Miami as potential venues.

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled in August, in Milwaukee.
