Gov. Ron DeSantis has asked all Florida residents to pause for a moment of silence at 3 p.m. Monday, in honor of Memorial Day.

He’s also directed all national and state flags to be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to noon on Monday, “in memory of the fallen heroes of our Armed Forces,” according to a May 31, 2021 proclamation.
Monday marks the 153rd anniversary of Memorial Day, and DeSantis cites in the proclamation that Florida has 1.5 million veterans “living in our great state” and that Florida is recognized as one of the of the “most military and veteran friendly states in the nation.”
