Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio Of Florida Stands By Trump In Doubts “About The Veracity Of This Election.”

While President-elect Joe Biden prepares to take office, Florida’s U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio supports President Donald Trump taking legal action to challenge voting results in the 2020 presidential election.

“At the core of our republic, its legitimacy comes from people’s confidence in the elections,” Rubio, a Republican, told Fox News host Sean Hannity Tuesday evening. “Right now, you got half this country that has doubts about the veracity of this election.”

Rubio didn’t expound on any details about doubts and veracity during the Fox News show.

And the New York Times reported Tuesday that “Election officials in dozens of states representing both political parties said that there was no evidence that fraud or other irregularities played a role in the outcome of the presidential race, amounting to a forceful rebuke of President Trump’s portrait of a fraudulent election.”

Biden was called the winner on Saturday after gaining the more than 270 electoral college votes needed to declare victory. Meanwhile, Trump falsely said he won the election.

Rubio appeared to back Trump’s push for recounts in the 2020 election, saying that both Democrats and Republicans “should be welcoming of having this process be open and transparent.”

“That’s why the process that exists in the law, there’s a process in the law that exists, after the election, before the results are certified,” Rubio said.

“That process has to be allowed to move forward. Otherwise, we’re going to have a result here that half the country will harbor significant doubts about.”

And on Tuesday morning, Rubio said in a Twitter video that “the fact that 70% of Republicans don’t believe the 2020 election was free and fair, that should be of concern to everyone.” In the video, Rubio didn’t mention where that 70% came from.

“Our election laws call for recounts in close elections,” Rubio said. “They provide candidates the right to contest votes cast in violation of the law.”

According to the Washington Examiner, “Rubio is gearing up to seek a third term in 2022 after coming under attack from Democrats just days after the conclusion of this year’s general election.”

The media outlet said: “The Florida Republican has made no formal announcement, but after Democratic operatives in the Sunshine State unveiled retirerubio.org and activated the Twitter account @retirerubio, the senator issued a fundraising appeal in an email to grassroots supporters and began taking steps to mount a campaign for reelection…”
