U.S. Attorney Lawrence Keefe Is Self-Isolating After Contracting Covid-19

Lawrence Keefe, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, has tested positive for COVID-19 and is self-isolating, according to a spokesman.

Keefe tested positive Monday afternoon at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Spokesman Ron Sachs said Tuesday that Keefe likely contracted the virus in Charleston, S.C. while dealing with an unrelated family medical emergency. He had not been in the U.S. Attorney’s offices since June 9.

Keefe is currently doing well and directing the activities of the office from home.

“He said he feels as if he is dealing with the onset of a cold and is following all protocols recommended by medical experts,” Sachs said in a statement.

Keefe is an Okaloosa County native and former law partner of U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, the son of former Florida Senate President Don Gaetz.

Keefe was sworn as U.S. Attorney on Jan. 9, 2019.

Keefe is described as routinely wearing a mask any time he is out in public. Other members of the Keefe family are being tested, in an abundance of caution.

After being tested positive, Keefe quickly notified the U.S. Department of Justice Department, as well as his office, according to Sachs.
