14 Children Injured In Broward School Bus Crash

14 children and 4 adults suffered minor injuries Friday when a school bus was involved in a 3-vehicle crash in Broward County.

DAVIE, FL — Fourteen children and four adults suffered minor injuries Friday when a school bus was involved in a three-vehicle crash along busy Interstate 595 in Broward County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The bus was from World of Kids Transport and is affiliated with a summer church camp. The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m.

"There are no serious injuries in the crash," explained Lt. Alvaro A. Feola of the Florida Highway Patrol. The bus had visible front-end damage.

The West Pines Community Church in Pembroke Pines said that the children were participating in an annual mission camp for middle- and high-school-aged students.

"These students are sent out all over South Florida to partner with local nonprofit organizations and public schools to put their faith in action and show love to our community," church officials said. "We are grateful to God that these students are safe and are praying for everyone affected by the accident."

Surveillance video showed that the school bus apparently was unable to avoid a collision that occurred along the highway between two other vehicles.

Feola said that the crash took place in the eastbound lanes of the highway west of Davie Road. Traffic was getting by in the left and inside center lanes.

"I just heard the girls in the front of the bus start screaming," said one young boy who was on the bus in an interview with Local 10 News. "The next thing I hear is just like the glass shatter. And then, I just see the car roll by the right side of the bus. It was just kind of insane."

Four of the injured were taken to Plantation General Hospital and the remaining 14 were taken to Broward General Medical Center, according to Feola.

Families of those involved in the school bus crash were asked to call Feola at 954-242-3340 for information on where to find their children.
