20-Year-Old Passenger Dies In Dover Crash On SR 574: Troopers

Florida Highway Patrol investigated a fatal crash on SR 574 that took the life of a passenger after the SUV the victim was in lost control.

DOVER, FL — A 20-year-old passenger died in a Dover crash on Saturday when the driver of the car he was in lost control and collided into another vehicle, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to authorities, an SUV driven by a 20-year-old Dover man traveled westbound on State Road 574 west of Dover Road when a car in front of the driver and victim slowed down to turn.

The driver of the SUV drove into the eastbound lane to drive ahead of the turning vehicle.

When the SUV went into the eastbound lane, it lost control which caused it to spin, investigators said.

A 49-year-old Dover woman in an SUV traveling eastbound on State Road 574 slowed down when she saw the other SUV begin to spin out of control, and went to the right to avoid a crash, troopers said.

The SUV driven by the 20-year-old crashed into the front of the woman's SUV, and then it flipped over, according to deputies.

The 20-year-old passenger in the flipped over SUV was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, law enforcement officials said.

The driver of the flipped over SUV and the driver of the other SUV experienced minor injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Due to Mary's Law, the Florida Highway Patrol will not release the name of the victims.
