Fire Destroys Small House Behind Monument To The Giant

A small wood-frame house behind the monument to Al "The Giant" Tomaini caught fire Saturday morning.

GIBSONTON, FL — Hillsborough County Fire Rescue fought a structure fire early Saturday morning at a small wood-frame house behind the monument to Al "The Giant" Tomaini.

Hillsborough firefighters received a call at 6:14 a.m. at 9815 U.S. 41 in Gibsonton. Engine 12 was first on the scene, confirming the small house was fully involved. Crews used saws to cut the fence and deployed handlines to battle the blaze. There were reports there could be people inside, so crews conducted primary and secondary searches and found no one inside.

It took firefighters just 10 minutes to extinguish the fire.
