RIVERVIEW, FL — A former BridgePrep Academy after-school care teacher was arrested for sending inappropriate messages to a student, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A 13-year-old student at the Riverview school received the TikTok messages from Marcos Suarez Arroyo, 20, in January and February of 2023. He was employed as an after-school care teacher at the time.

The incident was reported Dec. 12 to the sheriff’s office after Suarez Arroyo was fired from the school, the agency said.

Suarez Arroyo was charged with use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts and transmission of harmful material to a minor.

“The despicable actions of this man are infuriating and disgusting as he sought to prey upon a vulnerable minor, all while holding the trusted position of a teacher,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “I am grateful to our detectives who work tirelessly to protect and defend the innocent children in our community to ensure that parents are able to confidently send their children to school knowing they will be safe.”
