Brandon Girl Scout Received Coveted Gold Award
Laila is preparing for disaster one pet at a time.

BRANDON, FL — This initiative is brought to you by a Girl Scout Ambassador, to obtain the highest award available, the Gold Award. Laila, of Troop 716, has served our community as a Girl Scout for 13 years.
Laila, a High School Senior, partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to create Disaster Kits for cats and dogs. These Disaster Kits will be given to adopting pet parents, and especially benefit those who are elderly or lower income.
As pet owners, we have a responsibility to ensure the well-being and safety of our pets. This includes protecting them from harm, illness, and danger. Disasters can be dangerous and traumatizing for pets. Familiarity with emergency procedures and having essential supplies can provide comfort and reduce stress for both pets and pet parents.

Laila researched animal essentials in the event of an emergency, where pet parents may be required to leave their homes during a hurricane, flood, or other natural disaster. Each Disaster Kit includes an informational Pet Disaster Preparedness guide and all your pet essentials for cats or dogs during an emergency. Each Pet Disaster Kit includes a food and water bowl, pet food, a water bottle, a first aid kit, a leash or collar, toys, and a Kit Checklist for pet parents.
Laila sends out a special “thank you” to all the donors who have contributed to the Pet Disaster Kits. Thank you to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay for partnering with the Girl Scouts to distribute Pet Disaster Kits to the community!
