Student Made Social Media Threat Against School: Hillsborough Sheriff
A 15-year-old used Snapchat to threaten a shooting at Bloomingdale High School, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
VALRICO, FL — A 15-year-old was arrested Thursday for making an online threat against Bloomingdale High School, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The HCSO School Threat Assessment and Response Team responded to the school around 2:30 p.m. and met with the student who made the threat.
The teen posted a photo on Snapchat with the caption, “ok imma shoot the school up,” the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives don’t believe the student had access to any weapons.
They were charged with one count of written or electronic threat to conduct a mass shooting or act of terrorism and one count of unlawful use of a two-way communications device.

While the sheriff’s office has named the student who made the threat, it’s Patch policy not to name minors unless they’ve been charged as an adult. It’s unknown whether they were charged as a juvenile or adult.
"This behavior is not a joke. Threatening the safety of our schools, whether online or in person, will not be tolerated," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "We will pursue anyone who makes these threats to the fullest extent of the law. The safety of our students and teachers is non-negotiable, and we will not hesitate to take action.”
