Identity of Man Killed in Deputy-Involved Shooting Released

Breaking: A 31-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in Riverview Tuesday after reportedly threatening a deputy with a brick.

RIVERVIEW, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man killed Tuesday afternoon in Riverview following a car crash, three reported carjacking attempts and an altercation with a deputy that involved a brick.

According to the sheriff's office, Isaias Salgado, 31, had a lengthy criminal record before Tuesday’s incident in the Riverview area. Past arrests included armed carjacking, armed robbery with a deadly weapon, trespassing on school grounds with a firearm, violation of probation and battery, among others.

The incident that led to the shooting reportedly began when three vehicles were involved in a crash around 3 p.m. Oct. 4 on Gibsonton Drive. One of the drivers, since identified as Salgado, fled the crash scene, went to a nearby shopping center and attempted to carjack three people, the sheriff’s office said.

After failing to obtain a vehicle, Salgado reportedly went into a nearby neighborhood along Rivercrest Drive and Oak Ridge Avenue and tried to break into homes and cars. Deputies caught up with him in the neighborhood and tried to approach, but say Salgado, armed with a brick, attacked one of them.

Deputy Stuart Gray suffered minor injuries in the altercation and fired the fatal shot. Gray, a 24-year veteran deputy, is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation in to the shooting.
