Trail Will Allow Residents To Walk, Bike To Manatee County

Hillsborough County is proposing to build a 12-foot-wide paved trail in Ruskin that would span from Shell Point Road to 19th Avenue.

RUSKIN, FL -- Hillsborough County will hold an open house on Wednesday to discuss the South Coast Greenway Trail Phase 1A Trail Design project.

The meeting will be in open house format with project displays available for viewing.

Hillsborough County is proposing to build a 12-foot-wide paved trail in the Ruskin area that would span from Shell Point Road to 19th Avenue near 30th Street. The project would accommodate travel, exercise and recreational uses for cyclists and pedestrians. It is part of the regional South Coast Greenway between Hillsborough and Manatee counties.

The Greenway, which would eventually stretch all the way from Gibsonton to the Little Manatee River Preserve, is in line to receive $2.4 million, which would fund the first phase.

The proposed trail design includes a 492-foot-long pedestrian bridge, benches, bike racks, shade shelter and landscaping. Attendees at the open house will be able to review, ask questions and comment on the proposed design.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, at Hillsborough Community College SouthShore Campus, Community Room, SMPF 201/202, 551 24th St. N.E. in Ruskin.
