3 Dead, 1 Injured In FL Small Plane Crash

Three people were killed in a small plane crash in Boca Raton on Friday, reports said, while a person on the ground was hurt by debris.

BOCA RATON, FL — Three people were killed in a small plane crash in Boca Raton about 10:20 a.m. Friday morning, according to federal officials.

Two bodies were found on train tracks in the area of the crash, reports said.

While authorities investigate, North Military Trail is closed between NW 19th Street and Butts Road, Boca Raton police said. The Interstate 95 overpass at Glades Road is also closed in both directions.

The plane, a Cessna 310R propeller aircraft, was flying unusually low before the crash, WFLA Newsradio said. It circled several times after taking off from Boca Raton Airport before the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the aircraft involved was a Cessna 310 that had just taken off from the airport and was headed to Tallahassee International Airport. The plane was headed to Tallahassee International Airport.

A statement said the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and provide any updates.

One person on the ground suffered non-life-threatening injuries when he was struck by crash debris, including part of a tree, Boca Raton Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Michael LaSalle said at a news conference, according to NBC News.

The plane's pilot reported rudder issues shortly before the crash, the network reported.

Debris from the crash was visible on the railroad tracks where the bodies were found, Local 10 News reported.

“On behalf of the city, we express our heartbreak at this tragic loss of life. Out thoughts and prayers go out to the families and all affected of the deceased,” said Boca Raton Mayor Scott Singer, as reported by WPLG. “We can be grateful in tragic moments like this for the swift action of our Boca Raton fire and police department, who work to minimize the harm and respond to the immediate concern of the fire.”
