34 More Coronavirus Deaths Reported In Florida; 1,736 New Cases

34 new coronavirus deaths were reported in Florida Monday as state health officials confirmed another 1,736 ​more cases of the virus.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Thirty-four new coronavirus deaths were reported in Florida Monday as state health officials confirmed another 1,736 more cases of the virus.

Monday's total compares to eight new deaths Sunday, 98 new deaths Saturday, 176 new deaths Friday, 211 new deaths Thursday, 200 new deaths Wednesday, 44 new deaths Tuesday and 22 new deaths last Monday.

The total number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Florida rose to 665,730 Monday, up from 663,994 a day earlier.

Florida's numbers compare to 762,300 cases and 14,386 deaths in California; 681,885 cases and 14,405 deaths in Texas as well as well as 444,365 cases and 33,023 deaths in New York, according to information compiled by Johns Hopkins.

Florida health officials reported the state's 33rd day of daily positivity under 10 percent. The daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

Florida's overall positivity rate, which is cumulative, was at 13.45 percent as of Monday based on 4,948,075 total tests.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 164,299 cases of the virus and 2,894deaths as of Monday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 74,525 cases and 1,284 deaths. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 3,451 cases and 1,199 deaths.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 39,600 cases of the virus and 585 deaths while Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 38,013 cases and 409 deaths.

Sarasota County, which includes the city of Sarasota, reported 7,644 cases of the virus and 233 deaths. Manatee County, which includes Bradenton, reported 10,932 cases and 275 deaths. Pinellas County reported 20,988 cases of the virus and 701 deaths while Pasco County reported 8,551 cases and 195 deaths. Polk County, which includes Lakeland, reported 18,523cases of the virus and 488 deaths.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 12,642 Monday, up from 12,608 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 158 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

The state reported 41,374 hospitalizations Monday, up from 41,297 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 77 new hospitalizations over the previous day.
