TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Florida continued on a record-setting pace Saturday as state health officials reported 4,049 more cases — the fourth one-day record set this week — after health officials reported 3,822 new cases on Friday, 3,207 Thursday and 2,783 new cases on Tuesday.
The total number of cases in Florida reached 93,797 Saturday, up from 89,748 over the previous 24-hour period. This week’s record spikes follow a string of 1,000-plus case days.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has said many of the new cases involve people who are much younger than the initial people who tested positive. Many of them also don’t have any symptoms of the illness thanks to the widespread availability of testing in the state.
