Missing Manatee Kayaker Found Alive But Disoriented

A missing Manatee County kayaker was found alive but disoriented Monday night following a day-long search.

BRADENTON, FL — A 30-year-old kayaker was found alive but disoriented Monday night following a day-long search by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and other first responders.

The mother of Peter J. Hasakis reported him missing shortly before 9 a.m. Monday from the Palma Sola Harbour Condominiums along with a green kayak.

He wasn't found Monday night shortly before 9 p.m. and was given medical attention.

"He was walking around in Sunny Shores ... a short while ago when he was approached by a resident," the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said

The Sheriff's office said Hasakis left his mobile phone and wallet at his home. His submerged kayak was found about an hour later two miles west of Catalina Drive in shallow water.

"Deputies are unable to confirm if Peter fell off the kayak while out in Palma Sola Bay, or abandoned the craft and swam to shore," the sheriff's office said.

Deputies were attempting to find out where Hasakis spent the day while rescue crews searched for him.

The U.S. Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission participated in the search along withe the Manatee Sheriff's Office Marine Unit.
