Smelly Socks Led to Teen’s Drug Arrest: Sheriff's Office

Breaking: A 15-year-old Bradenton boy was arrested Wednesday morning after a deputy found meth, cash and marijuana in his socks.

BRADENTON, FL — A 15-year-old Horizons Academy student faces criminal charges after a Manatee County deputy happened to catch a whiff of a something not quite right on the boy Wednesday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy relied on his senses, suspecting the funny odor was marijuana. The teen was detained at his school around 9:08 a.m. Nov. 16.

After reaching out to the teen’s grandmother, she reported to the 1910 E. 27th St. school and consented to an interview, an email from the sheriff’s office said. With permission granted, the deputy spoke to the boy about the smell, the email added.

At that point, the teen reportedly “produced marijuana and cash from his right sock.” The sheriff’s office said he then proceeded to pull a baggie of suspected methamphetamine from his left sock.

Following those revelations and two positive presumptive tests for drugs on the items once hidden in his socks, the boy was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell on school grounds.
