Temporary Water Advisory Issued In Bradenton: Officials

A temporary water advisory has been issued in Bradenton after storm surge from Hurricane Helene breached the Braden River dam, city said.

BRADENTON, FL — A temporary water advisory has been issued in Bradenton after storm surge from Hurricane Helene breached the impoundment dam of the Braden River, city officials said in a news release.

This breach exceeds standards for secondary drinking water, such as chloride, and will likely “do so for a limited period,” officials said.

Water meets all primary drinking water standards.

City staff is working with Manatee County and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to fix the issue.

“Our goal is, and always has been, to provide you a safe and dependable supply of drinking
water, however, during this time, the water may have a different taste and/or color,” city officials said. “Rigorous testing will continue as we monitor the situation.”

The city also encourages water conservation in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and will offer bottled water distribution at three locations on Saturday and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.:

  • Wakeland Elementary School, 1801 27th Street E.
  • 1000 - 1200 block of 3rd Avenue W.
  • G.T. Bray Park, 5502 33rd Avenue West (entrance from 59th Street West)
