Whopping Gator Wrangled In Florida

You won't believe how large the gator was that was removed from a Florida Power and Light facility earlier this week in Parrish, Florida.

PARRISH, FL — An alligator measuring a whopping 11 feet 8 inches was trapped at the Florida Power and Light Power Plant in Parrish earlier this week, according to Florida Wildlife officials.

Melody Kilborn of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission told Patch that the gator was wrangled on Wednesday at the request of the utility.

Kilborn wasn't quite sure if the alligator set any kind of size record.

"Alligators of various sizes can be found in Florida all year long," she explained. "This alligator was transferred live to Florida Native Outfitters Farm."

She said that the gator had been swimming in the power plant cooling pond and divers were concerned for their safety.

The FWC administers Florida's Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program or (SNAP) to address complaints related to alligators that may pose a threat to people, pets or property.
