HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A Seffner teenager was killed when his car smashed into trees along Interstate 75 on Tuesday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Investigators said the 18-year-old victim sped in the outside lane on I-75 at 10:05 p.m. when the vehicle spun at a curve near milepost 253. As the car spun, it crashed into a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old Riverview man. Both cars went down an embankment and slammed into a tree line, according to troopers.

The 18-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The Riverview driver suffered serious injuries, detectives said.
