17-Year-Old High School Student Fatally Struck By Train In Brandon
The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died the following day, authorities said.
BRANDON, FL — A 17-year-old high school student died Friday, a day after authorities said he was struck by a CSX train in Brandon.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the railroad tracks near Lakewood Drive in Brandon around 8:25 a.m. on Thursday.
When deputies arrived, they found the teen, who had been struck by a train. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition and died the following day, authorities said.

During the investigation, deputies learned the teen was walking on the tracks toward Brandon High School when a train came from behind and struck him as he attempted to jump out of the way.
Deputies found a pair of headphones near the victim, but are still trying to determine how the accident occurred. Dense fog was also reported in the area at the time of the incident, authorities said.
