346 Traffic Stops In 9 Hours Preparing For Super Bowl 55
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies are increasing aggressive driving citations as officials prepare for Super Bowl traffic.
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office made 346 traffic stops within nine hours on Wednesday, a news release said.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said that the sheriff's office has partnered with the Florida Highway Patrol to begin taming aggressive driving patterns ahead of the increase in traffic due to Super Bowl LV.
A joint operation was conducted in areas flagged as “crash corridors” based on traffic crash data, authorities said. Deputies focused their education and enforcement on Hillsborough Avenue, N. Dale Mabry Highway, Waters Avenue, Sheldon Road, and Interstate-275.

During the nine-hour saturation on Wednesday, Chronister, 28 HCSO deputies and two FHP troopers made 346 traffic stops that resulted in 200 citations, 187 written warnings and zero arrests.
“Our Traffic Enforcement Unit is trying to slow people down and stop that aggressive behavior behind the wheel that is causing so many traffic-related crashes and senseless deaths,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Let’s all do our part: drive safely, plan ahead and let’s get to where we need to get to safely.”
