Contestants are scheduled to compete Sept. 29 in the 2012 Brandon Idol contest at the Brandon Elks Lodge, at 800 Centennial Lodge Drive.
The annual contest stems from the Brandon Idol effort that began in 2001 as a fundraising event for Arlene Waldron, who ran successfully that year for Honorary Mayor of Brandon. The mayor is "elected" each year based on the "candidate" who raises the most money for charity.

Brandon Idol Teen was launched in 2007 and this year has 20 contestants in two age categories (10-13 and 14-17).
