Livestream Of Racially Motivated Attack Planned By FL Man: DOJ

A 20-year-old Sarasota man planning a racially motivated attack was arrested on gun and child porn charges, federal officials said.

SARASOTA, FL — A Sarasota man planning a racially motivated attack faces multiple federal charges, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.

Lucas Alexander Temple, 20, was indicted for possessing an unregistered firearm, possession of a firearm with a removed serial number and receipt of child sexual abuse material.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison, the DOJ said. Temple was previously arrested on a criminal complaint.

Federal agents found a shotgun with an unregistered, sawed-off barrel less than 18 inches long while executing a search warrant at Temple's home on Nov. 20.

Agents found evidence that Temple had been plotting a racially motivated act of violence, including pipe bombs, multiple firearms, ammunition, a pressure cooker, literature on how to manufacture explosives and a written plan as to his intentions, federal officials said.

Temple planned to wear body cameras and livestream the attack, according to an image of his written plans that authorities shared.

He also owned various Nazi and mass shooting propaganda materials, including the journals of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the shooters in the 1999 Columbine High School massacre, and a large flag bearing the Atomwaffen Division symbol, the DOJ said.

The Atomwaffen Division is a U.S.-based racially or ethnically motivated violent extremist group.
Federal authorities said the group’s targets have included racial minorities, the Jewish community, the LGBTQ community, the United States government, journalists and critical infrastructure.

“AWD’s ideology largely focused on accelerationism, meaning the goal was to push society into armed conflict in an effort to create a radical social transformation,” the DOJ said.

Investigators also “learned that Temple had been communicating with other ideologically aligned individuals online about conducting violence against minorities and providing instructions on how to manufacture explosives,” the department said.

Agents discovered that, on at least two occasions, Temple received images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
