Nominations Sought for Disability Advocacy Awards

The Hillsborough County Alliance for Citizens with Disabilities is seeking nominations for the annual Disability Advocacy Awards, honoring local individuals and organizations that have contributed to improving the lives of people living with disabilities in Hillsborough County.

The award winners will be recognized at the annual Disability Awareness Expo at the Fred E. Karl County Center at 601 E. Kennedy Blvd., Tampa. The theme of this year's event is "Disability: Focusing on Achievement" and will take place on Wednesday, July 24, from 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.

  • Outstanding Community Service Award, which recognizes an individual, group or organization for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the community through courageous advocacy, education and diligent persistence in pursuing goals that improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities.
  • Outstanding Accessible Places for People Award, which honors an individual, organization or place in Hillsborough County, for developing innovative ideas that improve life and accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
  • Outstanding Youth/Young Adult Service Award, which pays tribute to a young person (age 22 or younger residing in Hillsborough County) or a youth group who volunteers their time to make a positive impact in the lives of people with disabilities.
