Arrest of Alleged ‘Barefoot Auto Burglar’ Yields Cautionary Tale, Prevention Tips
Tips for preventing auto burglaries were offered by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office with the June 17 arrest of "barefoot bandit" Morgan Deblock, who reportedly admitted to 600 burglaries and attempted burglaries in Valrico's Bloomingdale East.

When Hillsborough County Sheriff deputies on routine patrol spotted a barefoot Morgan Deblock pushing a motorized scooter in Valrico, their curiosity was piqued.
They decided to question Deblock, spotted June 17 in the Bloomingdale subdivision of Greater Brandon, as he scooted along Natures Way Boulevard and Springvale Drive.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s report, Deblock “told deputies he just stole the scooter, parked in a residential driveway around the corner.”

“Deblock stated it was easy to get into cars because one out of five vehicles he checked were left unlocked,” the sheriff’s report noted. “Deblock said he never once broke a window or used force to gain entry into the cars.”
Deblock was taken into custody and the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office issued strong suggestions for “simple steps to prevent auto burglary,” noting that the most-often stolen items are briefcases, garage-door openers, laptop computers, tools, cash, keys and mail.
