Brandon Bicyclist Killed in Crash Identified

Breaking: The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a man killed in a Sept. 3 crash on State Road 60.

BRANDON, FL — As the investigation into a fatal Sept. 3 crash on State Road 60 continues, the Florida Highway Patrol has released more information about the incident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist.

According to the patrol, the crash happened around 8 p.m. as a Toyota Tundra driven by Hung Nguyen, 40, of Valrico was heading eastbound on State Road 60. As the Tundra traveled just west of Knights Avenue, a bicycle ridden by Kirin B. Gill, 47, of Brandon attempted to travel north across State Road 60 from the south shoulder.

Troopers say Gill entered the path of the oncoming Tundra and was struck. Gill was taken to Brandon Regional, but died from his injuries.

The crash remains under investigation with charges pending the outcome, the patrol noted in a media release. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
