BRANDON, FL — A 1-year-old child has died following a crash Sunday on the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, at 11:37 p.m., a 20-year-old Brandon woman was driving a Hyundai Sonata west in the outside lane of the expressway when she lost control and the Hyundai struck a guardrail.

The Hyundai ricocheted back into the travel lanes and collided with a Nissan Pathfinder driven by a 47-year-old Riverview woman.

The 1-year-old boy was taken to the hospital where he died. The driver of the Hyundai suffered serious injuries and a 27-year-old passenger from Tampa had minor injuries.

The driver of the Pathfinder suffered minor injuries and her passengers, a 25-year-old Riverview woman and a 6-year-old Riverview girl, were uninjured.
