CSX Train Hits Seffner Man Believed To Have Died Beforehand
Evidence shows that Marvin Edward Herring likely died before a CSX conductor attempted to stop and avoid striking him at the railroad tracks at Kingsway Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard. A medical condition, and not foul play, is suspected.

A 62-year-old Seffner man died at the railroad tracks at Kingsway Road and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard after he reportedly collapsed there from a medical condition. He later was struck by a train.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Marvin Edward Herring, of 1603 South Lenna Ave., died June 29, found underneath a train whose conductor attempted to stop in time to avoid striking Herring.
Evidence at the scene reportedly shows that Herring is believed to have died before the train arrived.

His body was transported to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the exact cause of death. CSX reported the incident at 9:55 p.m.
The latest report from the sheriff’s office is that no foul play is suspected. The report further notes that according to detectives, “it appears as though Herring had some sort of medical condition and collapsed in between the railroad tracks."

The CSX train that struck Herring “was heading westbound when the conductor observed Herring’s body lying in between the rails,” according to the sheriff’s report. The conductor applied the emergency brakes but “it took the train nearly one-quarter of a mile before it could completely stop.”
After the train stopped, Herring was found with injuries to his left arm “caused by the train as it traveled over him.”
Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced Harris dead at the scene.
CSX investigators arrived on the scene as well and are assisting in the ongoing investigation.
