Durant Football: Cougars Host King Aiming To Clinch a Perfect Season

The undefeated Durant Cougars, following last week's 57-27 win against the Riverview Sharks, end the regular season tonight, Nov. 9, hoping to make it a perfect season with a win against the King High Lions.

Durant faces the Lions (3-7 overall, 2-4 in league play), ranked nationally and in the state at 4,736 and 270, respectively, according to MaxPreps.com.

The Cougars (9-0 overall, 5-0 in league play) are ranked 411 in the nation and 33 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. The Cougars this season beat Freedom, Alonso, Brandon, Wharton, Plant City, Chamberlain, Newsome, East Bay and Riverview (see chart below).

The Nov. 9 contest kicks off 7:30 p.m. at Durant High in Plant City, at 4748 Cougar Path. Also in play tonight are the:

• Brandon Eagles (1-8), away at Jefferson (5-4)
• Strawberry Crest Chargers (3-6), at home against East Bay (4-5)
• Newsome Wolves (5-4), at home againt crosstown rivals Bloomingdale (4-5)

The Armwood Hawks ended their regular season last week (7-3 overall, 5-1 in league play).

Going into tonight's game, the Cougars in 2012, under head coach Mike Gottman, have amassed 329 points in nine outings, averaging out to 36.6 points per game. Their closest game was a one-pointer win over Wharton. The Cougars this season have had shut-out victories against Alonso, Brandon and Chamberlain. They scored 57 points in two games, against Freedom on Sept. 1 and last week, Nov. 2, against Riverview.
