HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — Twenty-nine people were arrested for driving under the influence in Hillsborough County over Easter weekend in a continuing effort by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office's DUI Enforcement Squad to crack down on holiday drinking and driving.

In 2019, the sheriff's office founded a squad dedicated to targeting drug and alcohol-impaired drivers. From April 7 to April 9, the DUI Enforcement Squad made 29 arrests and gave out 241 warnings to drivers. Several arrests were repeat offenders and subsequently charged with a felony DUI.

Among those arrested was a man who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 75 and blew a .218 on the Breathalyzer test. Those with a blood-alcohol contest over .08 are considered legally drunk in Florida.

"I commend our DUI enforcement squad for their tireless work, and we will continue to crack down on every individual that chooses to make this detrimental decision."
