Florida Woman Made Bomb Threat to Stop Urine Test: Cops

A Lake Wales woman's alleged attempt to stop her boyfriend's urine test Tuesday landed her in jail on felony charges.

WINTER HAVEN, FL — A Lake Wales woman faces felony charges after police say she took her devotion to her boyfriend to criminal levels Tuesday. The 31-year-old woman is accused of calling in a bomb threat to prevent her boyfriend from taking a urine test at his parole office.

The case against Deniz Martinez began to unfold around 2:42 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 when a 911 call was placed to officials in Winter Haven. The caller told dispatchers there was a man outside the 1289 1st St. S. probation and parole building. The man, the caller said, had plans to blow up the building, Winter Haven Police wrote in an email to media.

After sharing the message, police say the caller hung up. Attempts to call the number back failed.

Officers began trying to track down the origin of the call, police said. It didn’t take long for the number to trace back to a cell phone owned by Martinez, the email said. Once police began poking around a little bit, they learned Martinez had taken her boyfriend Jason Drake, 38, to the probation and parole building for an 8:30 a.m. urinalysis.

“Drake was unable to provide the urine sample, therefore he had to stay in the building until he could provide a sufficient sample,” the email explained. After six hours of waiting, Martinez is accused of calling in the threat to prevent the test from occurring.

Police found her at her Lake Wales apartment after uncovering the hoax and charged her with filing a false report concerning planting a bomb, the email said.

Whether Drake would have passed that urinalysis or not has become a moot point. Police say they charged him with violation of probation since he didn’t provide a sample. His part in the bomb hoax is also under investigation with additional charges pending the outcome.

No further information is being released at this time.
