Hillsborough’s Elementary Arts and Music Students at Straz Center Tonight

The Hillsborough County School District's 22nd Annual Elementary Fine Arts Festival at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts is a showcase of student talent across many disciplines. The May 16 event kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

More than 700 fourth- and fifth-grade art and music students from Hillsborough public schools will showcase their talents today, May 16, at the 22nd Annual Elementary Fine Arts Festival at the David A. Straz, Jr. Center for the Performing Arts.

The Morsani Hall lobby will open at 6:30 p.m. for the student artwork gallery. At 7 p.m., music students from around the county will participate in a variety of performances, including a festival orchestra, handbell choir, three regional choruses, Orff ensemble, world drumming, and a finale of all ensembles.

Students and parents have raved about past performances.

“It was amazing how all of the separate ensembles came together for an exquisite finale,” said parent Anicette Richardson, about last year’s festival. "The students learned so much about how to work together.”

Added a student from Essrig Elementary: “It is such fun and I feel so happy to be here and that I was chosen from so many great singers at my school.”

The center is at 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16.
