VILLAGE PLAYERS GIVES ANOTHER SYLVIA THOMAS AWARD
- He played multiple roles in the Village Players' winter production of "Annie" and for his work Jeff Crum received the Sylvia Jones Award. The award is given in memory of a Village Players actress who played many small roles over the course of her community theater career. It is given to the actor or actress who likewise shines in a small, but significant, role. Crum was given the award for his portrayal of Drake, Carl, Mr. Hull and Eugene.

- The Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center has announced that Jessica Ho, 14, is now ranked No. 4 in the nation in tennis for Girls' 16's. Over the holidays, from Dec. 27 through Jan. 1, Ho comepeted at the USTA Junior Winter National Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she won the Girls' 16's Singles. BRANDON STUDENT NAMED TO DEAN'S LIST
- Named a third time to the Thiel College Dean's List is Allison Schulta, a senior biology major. The Brandon resident was among the 288 students who made the lists for the 2011 fall semester. The college notice explains that to make the dean's list, a Thiel College student must attain a grade-point average of 3.40 on a 4.0 scale while being enrolled full time. Thiel is a 1,100-student liberal arts, sciences and professional studies college in Greenville, PA. For information, call: 1-800-GO-THIEL.
KINGSWOOD EDUCATOR A FINALIST FOR TOP AWARD

- Five Hillsborough County School District teachers have been named finalists for 2012 Teacher of the Year, including Sue Creekmore, a teacher a fourth-grade teacher at Kingswood Elementary School. The to deliver the news in person to Creekmore, who for 33 of her 34 years as an educator has been teaching in Hillsborough County public schools. Her tenure has included teaching assignments at Oak Hill, Seffner, Gibsonton, Ruskin, Symmes, Clair Mel and Graham elementary schools. The other four finalists are Elisabeth Denisar Babin (Dowdell Middle), Yolanda Whitehead Driskell (Hillsborough High), Katy Cortelyou (Kenly Elementary) and Christine Danger (Robles Elementary).
BEEF 'O'BRADY'S OWNERS RECEIVE AWARD
- Cormac and Lora McCarthy, owners of the Beef 'O' Brady's restaurants on Bell Shoals Road and on FishHawk Boulevard were presented "with an award from the Hillsborough County High School Football Foundation for their generous support of high school football," according to a news report posted online by the Osprey Observer. According to the report, "the McCarthys are active supporters of Newsome High School, Bloomingdale High School, local nonprofits and the community in general."
