RIVERVIEW, FL - A man who organized a memorial fundraising carnival for a Hillsborough deputy was fatally struck during the event about 7 p.m. Saturday, deputies said. Christopher James Scigliano , 44, was killed when he stepped into traffic on Lithia Pinecrest Road in Riverview and was struck by two vehicles.

Scigliano of Lithia was the event director for the Deputy Morrell Memorial Carnival. Larry Morrell, a DUI investigator, died in June after a battle with cancer. Morrell was a 25-year veteran of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The event was raising money for a scholarship program set up by Morrell.

Scigliano was killed when he stepped onto the northbound lane of Lithia Pinecrest to direct traffic. He was hit by a 2015 Chevrolet truck driven by Kevin Hancock of Lithia. The impact threw him into the southbound lane where he was struck by a Ford SUV driven by Steven Hall of Tampa.
