Octogenarian Pedestrian Killed at Falkenburg Road and Columbus Drive

Enrique Hernandez reportedly was walking against a signal when the accident occurred. The Plant City driver and his three occupants were not injured, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

 

An 86-year-old Tampa man, reportedly walking against a “Do Not Walk” signal, was struck and killed by the driver of a 2008 Ford SUV on Dec. 28, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Killed in the accident was Enrique Hernandez, of 10505 East Columbus Drive in Tampa, according to the sheriff’s report.

The accident reportedly took place at around 7:39 p.m., at the intersection of Falkenburg Road and Columbus Drive in the Greater Brandon area of Tampa.

The driver has been identified as Jeffrey Blackburn, a Plant City resident, who was driving in the car with three passengers, according to the sheriff's report.

If further notes that Hernandez was crossing within the crosswalk, “but against a ‘Do Not Walk’ signal, east across the south side of the intersection.”

Blackburn reportedly was driving north, in the outside lane of Falkenburg Road, "when he struck [Hernandez] just south of the intersection.”

The driver and the SUV’s occupants reportedly were not injured.

The investigation was continuing.
