Stop Celebratory Gunfire On New Year's: Sheriff
Law enforcement officials warn residents that celebratory gunfire during New Year's Eve remains a serious problem in many communities

TAMPA, FL - Law enforcement officials warn residents that celebratory gunfire during New Year's Eve remains a serious problem in many Tampa Bay communities. Officers warn that it can lead to tragic results when innocent people are hit and injured or killed by bullets falling to the ground. The celebratory gunfire could lead to your arrest, officers say.
The reality is, that any bullet discharged from a gun, even into the sky, must land somewhere, and when it does, there is significant risk of injury or death, Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies said Friday.
Sheriff Chad Chronister said: "The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office remains committed to a policy of zero tolerance of illegal gun use and will enhance our initiatives to combat gun violence in our community. Our mission is to protect the quality of life for all residents throughout our community by creating an environment (that) enhances safety and security."
