Wild Hogs Cause Headaches in FishHawk

Vehicles with U.S. government license plates have been spotted in FishHawk, where federal officials started hog removal started May 1. The effort is expected to run throughout the course of the year to prevent ruined landscapes, disease and more.

 

The United States Department of Agriculture’s Wild Services program in May started the removal of feral hogs from the conservation areas surrounding certain parts of FishHawk Ranch.

“They’re nothing like Babe or Wilbur in ‘Charlotte’s Web’" notes a Bloomingdale-Riverview Patch report written by editor D'Ann White. “These pigs are the bane of property owners throughout FishHawk Ranch.

Seen throughout Florida and Texas, feral hogs are also called feral pigs, wild boar, wild hogs or razorbacks.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, these hogs are quickly wearing out their welcome, having tremendous negative impacts on native plants, native wildlife, livestock, agriculture and humans.
