Woman Dies From Head Injuries In Domestic Violence Dispute
A 66-year-old man faces murder charges after the woman he is accused of beating died of severe head injuries, Hillsborough deputies said.

VALRICO, FL — A 66-year-old Valrico man is charged with second-degree murder following a violent domestic dispute with a woman on Nov. 3, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The suspect, Michael Atland, came out of a home in the 2000 block of Heritage Crest Drive covered in blood, authorities said.
A victim inside the home with severe head injuries was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital., where she was initially listed in extremely critical condition, deputies said. On Nov. 15, the victim died from her injuries, investigators said.

Atland had minor injuries, detectives said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office arrested Atland Monday on a charges of second-degree murder, according to authorities.

Atland was remote booked from the hospital for an unrelated issue, authorities said.
“Too often domestic-related homicides are the tragic end to a cycle of abuse," Sheriff Chad Chronister. "No one should lose a loved one to senseless acts of domestic violence. I am urging everyone to know the warning signs of domestic violence and seek help. There are a number of local resources, including the Spring of Tampa Bay. Due to Marsy's Law, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will not release the name of the victim or the exact relationship with the suspect.
