Carrollwood Elementary PTA President Aims to Enhance Education

Amanda Adcock is a stay-at-home mom whose children attend the school.

For the past 16 years, Amanda Adcock has called Carrollwood home.

Now, the married mother of three kids - Matthew, 10, Jonathan, 8 and Anna, 6 - is transitioning into a new role as president of the Carrollwood Elementary School PTA. The stay-at-home mom was voted in during May of this year to lead the eight-member executive board of the school's PTA.

With school starting in less than a month, we talked to Adcock, an Alabama native, about what she plans to accomplish in her new role at the school her children attend.

Patch: What are your duties?

Adcock: I am a liaison between the principal and my committee, and I chair and facilitate meetings and schedule those. We have board of directors meetings once a month, and at least three general meetings open to all PTA members. Anyone can come to general meetings.

Patch: What's the hardest part of your role?

Adcock: The hardest part is having good ideas that you and other people have come up with, but you have to pick and choose.

Patch: What's the most fun part of your role?

Adcock: I enjoy being in school with my kids, and being involved in the things they do. I've met good friends, and we have fun.

Patch: What do you hope to accomplish as PTA president?

Adcock: Everything we do is to try to enhance their education. We were joking that we want to be the 'warm and fuzzy' PTA this year. We want to be a good cohesive group with parents, kids, principal and staff.
