Carrollwood Players Theatre to Present "Conversations in Bed"

Locally written comedy by Gretchen Suárez-Peña explores what couples talk about in bed.

Pillow talk is a beloved American pastime practiced by couples who have things - lots of things - to say to each other.

No sanctuary is more perfect than bed when it comes to baring one’s soul, gossiping about the neighbors, revealing feelings, and discussing life.

When multi award-winning Tampa Bay playwright Gretchen Suárez-Peña was a newlywed, she was amused by the humor of it all, and was inspired to write a comedy about it.

“I noticed before going to sleep, my husband and I would have funny conversations, and I remember growing up hearing my parents talk in their bedroom at night. I wanted to write a play that just showed real people living,” Suárez-Peña said.

The result was Conversations in Bed, a play that allows audience members to be a fly on the wall as four suburban couples cuddle up in the safety of their beds and spill everything.

The play will be presented in the intimate 42-seat Black Box theatre at Carrollwood Players in Tampa from February 7th through 16th, 2025

The theatre’s Managing Director, Jim Russell, said “Conversations in Bed is a perfect fit for our Black Box. Audiences will feel like they are in the bedroom with these couples. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

“I think anybody who has had a partner in life and has slept in the same bed will enjoy this piece. I hope that when people leave the show they feel seen,” Suárez-Peña added.

Director David Fraga says people will be talking after seeing the show. “On the drive home, you’ll be laughing and saying we’ve had that conversation!”
