'CATS' Production Headed to IDS Stage

Musical theatre students in the Community School of the Arts at Independent Day School's Corbett Campus will offer multiple performances of the legendary musical from June 7-10

Jellicle Cats will come to the Jellicle Ball at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus when musical theatre students in the IDS-CC Community School of the Arts perform the legendary Broadway hit, CATS in June.

The IDS-CC Community School of the Arts is staging two productions of the play. The youth cast features students in grades 3-8, and includes a "Kitten Chorus" of PreK-second graders. The high school cast includes students in grades 9-12.

Youth cast performances will take place on Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday June 9 and Sunday June 10 at 11 a.m. The high school cast will perform on Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.

All performances will be held in the Farish Center on the IDS-CC campus at 12015 Orange Grove Drive. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.

Students have been rehearsing every week since January. The show will feature 15 musical numbers showcasing 49 young singers and dancers in the youth cast and 27 high school students, inspiring costumes, design, and makeup.

"CATS is an amazing demonstration of theatricality," said show director Seth Travaglino. "The music, dance, sets, lights, and costumes are all stunning!"

Conceived and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, CATS opened in 1981 and became a theatrical legend across the globe. The production ran on Broadway for 21 years before closing in 2002.

Now in its ninth year, the Community School of the Arts at Independent Day School-Corbett Campus offers numerous programs ranging from guided exploration for young children, to traditional classes and lessons, innovative seminars, and numerous performing opportunities in musical theatre, music, dance and the visual arts.
