The Carrollwood Cultural Center will present "ELVIS: A Concert Experience" with impersonator Jim Jinelli on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. The date is significant for Presley fans because it marks the 35th anniversary of his death (Jan. 8, 1935 - Aug. 16, 1977).
At the age of 13, Jinelli saw Presley in concert for the first time at the Chicago Stadium. The concert had a profound effect on him. From that moment, the music and magic of Presley captured him for a lifetime. As a teenager, he would sing Presley’s songs hour after hour, mimicking every word, every voice inflection of every song. He studied everything about the phenomenon known as the “King of Rock & Roll."
Jinelli’s portrayal of Presley celebrates the King’s performances from 1971 to 1977. Staying as close to the original musical arrangements as possible, phrasing songs exactly as Presley did, Jinelli captivates his audience. However, Jim refuses to portray a caricature of the hip-swiveling Presley, rather staying true to the legendary performer's stage style of the era.
