The event, Music for Mission, is at 3 p.m. Nov. 14 and open to the public. Free-will donations will be accepted at the door and given to the Judeo Christian Clinic. Since 1972, the nonprofit medical facility has served the needs of those who are uninsured and who cannot afford to see a doctor privately.

The duo, Dr. Lauren Murray, oboe (Pasco Hernando State College) and Dr. Robert Murray, trumpet (Columbus State University) was formed in 1999 while doctoral students at The University of North Texas. Their shared concepts and experiences in wind playing generated a natural collaboration that formed an artistic goal of exploring, developing, and performing literature from all periods of musical history written for the combination of oboe and trumpet in chamber wind settings.

A common remark for the duo when they perform is: “Wow! We never would have imagined the oboe and trumpet sound so terrific together.” Surprisingly, these two instruments have a long-shared history and were found performing together almost from their birth. The baroque period is rich with music written for trumpet and oboe. However, though Harmonie del Sur’s original collaboration was formed performing existing works for oboe and trumpet, their current performances are now exclusively pieces that have been written for them. Since the year 2001, works written for Harmonie del Sur include pieces for oboe and trumpet; Flugelhorn and English horn; trumpet and English horn; oboe, trumpet and wind ensemble; oboe, trumpet and percussion; oboe, trumpet and piano; and oboe, trumpet and electronics.

This concert is part of a series of benefit concerts, which additional events on Feb. 13 and May 22.
