French Impressionists Inspire Local Artist
Jeanne Forsythe began painting as a child
Between the Carrollwood Cultural Center and the Life Enrichment Center, one thing is clear: North Tampa is a community full of talented artists.
We recently talked to one named Jeanne Forsythe, who has shown her work around Tampa Bay, about how she got her start and how the community can see her work.
Patch: How did you get your start as an artist?

Forsythe: I got started as an artist the same as most children. I was provided with crayons, coloring books, unlined paper and later art classes at school. The difference between a child interested in art and one who is not, in my opinion, is a matter of encouragement. My mother was my encourager.
Patch: Who or what influences you?

Forsythe: Originally, Disney was my influence. I had those big books with Disney characters, and I drew them over and over. I wanted to work for Disney one day.
In college, I became interested in painting after studying Van Gogh, Cezanne, Matisse. The French Impressionists are a big influence for me. Light also influences me. The way a flower's petals are illuminated, their transparency and lines. Lastly, I'm influenced by this area. I adore the ocean, palms, sand, shells, shore birds and everything to do with the ocean.
Patch: What are misconceptions you think people have about artists?
Forsythe: People think it's a God-given talent. I believe it's a lifelong love. If there is a gift, it has to be simply seeing the beauty the surrounds us all. I do believe that through training and practice, anyone's artistic side can blossom.
Patch: What does your work say about you as a person?
Forsythe: I believe my artwork shows my love for the world. The beach simply takes my breath away, from the sandpiper chasing the surf to children lost in play at the water's edge. I also see so much beauty in a field of flowers, a grand mossy oak filtering the sunlight here and there and in animals. I have a connection with animals that people say shows in my paintings.
Patch: How can members of the community see your work?
Forsythe: My work can be viewed or purchased at www.yessy.com/forsythedesign andn www.fineartamerica.com. Search for "Jeanne Forsythe." I will be part of the Landscape/Seascape show at Old Hyde Park Center in Tampa from July 24 through August.
