Gallery221@HCC Presents Exhibit Of Afro-Brazilian Artwork
The exhibit of contemporary artwork will run through Oct. 28.

CARROLLWOOD, FL - Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry Campus Gallery221@HCC will present "Vision, Power, Axé," an exhibition of Afro-Brazilian art, on display through Oct. 28.
"Vision, Power, Axé," highlights the nuance and complexity within Afro-Brazilian art from the city of Salvador, capital of the Brazilian state of Bahia, and internationally acclaimed center of Afro-Brazilian culture.
Contemporary artists J. Cunha, Ayrson Heráclito, Goya Lopes, Ronaldo Martins, Daiane Silva and Domingos Terciliano Jr. explore Bahia’s complex racial history and rich cultural traditions with artworks intricately interwoven with stories of resilience, activism and pride.

Ranging from paintings, sculptures, prints and videos, the work presented in "Vision, Power, Axé" at Gallery221@HCC articulates current sociopolitical issues, expressions of African heritage, the struggle for equality and the power of self-definition.
In conjunction with the exhibit, register for a virtual film screening and discussion Thursday, Sept. 23, 6 to 7 p.m., on Zoom

Additionally, there will be a poetry reading Thursday, Oct. 21, 6 to 8 p.m. in Gallery221.

Gallery221@HCC is located on the second floor of the Learning Resources Center/Library building on the HCC Dale Mabry Campus.
Gallery hours are Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday. Parking is available in any open lot.
