County 4-H Summer Camps Start June 25

Registration is due next week

This just in, from Hillsborough County officials:

From robotics to food chemistry and inventions to dinosaurs, Hillsborough County’s 4-H clubs will hold four different types of summer camps specially designed for children in grades 1 to 5. Each fun-filled camp will offer kids the opportunity to explore and have different experiences in the world of science.

Junk Yard Robotics - June 25-29, 8 a.m. - Noon; $25 per child.

Kids will explore the design and function of robotic arms, hands and grippers and build a robotic arm that really moves. They will also design and build machines that roll, slide, draw or move underwater and explore robot mobility movement, power transfer, and locomotion. This camp is suggested for grades 2-6.

Cooking Up Science Camp – July 9-13, 8 a.m. - Noon; $25 per child.

This camp involves exploring basic biology, chemistry and physics using common items from the kitchen.  Campers will make rock candy, mix up cornstarch goo,  and extract iron from their morning cereal. This camp is suggested for kids entering grades 3-6.

An Unfortunate Camp – July 23-27, 8 a.m. - Noon; $25 per child.

An unfortunate camp is actually a week of fun, hands-on activities that teach basic science principles. Campers will explore the science behind inventions, study reptiles and create interesting projects, learning through exploration and experimentation. This camp is based on “A Series of Unfortunate Events” books and it is for kids entering grades 3-5.

Dinosaur Camp - July 30 - August 3, 8 a.m. - Noon; $30 per child.

Go back in time millions of years to when dinosaurs roamed the earth. Campers will explore fossils left behind, learn about paleontologists, dig up dinosaur bones and more! This camp is suggested for kids entering grades 1-2.

Registration is due online by June 18. Payment is due first day of camp. Checks should be made out to Hillsborough County 4-H Youth Foundation. For questions about any of these camps, contact the Hillsborough County 4-H Office at 813-744-5519.
