Motorcyclist Dies After Crash

Authorities say he didn't see the car in front of him stop to make a turn.

A 30 year old Carrollwood man died this afternoon after slamming his motorcylce into the rear of a car on Memorial Highway.

Around 2:15pm authorities said John A. Mercado was operating a 2002 Suzuki
GSX R1000 motorcycle headed southbound on Memorial Highway when he rode into the rear end of a 2003 Toyota SUV operated by Belgica Lopez of Town 'N Country.

Mercado, who lives at 15802 Ironware Place, didn't see Lopez stop to make a left turn onto Timberlane West Drive, according to a report released by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Mercado was transpored to St. Joseph's Hospital where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet, according to authorities.
